Most small space features in print and online offer lovely, wide views of compact interiors, but rarely do viewers get to explore the insides of cabinets, closets and cubbies, or see how drawers are optimized. While I will forever stand by the idea that small space living is simpler than we make it out to be (it usually boils down to acquiring less stuff), it can be helpful to see how other folks make organization and storage work well for their households.
So here’s a look inside our vintage hallway hutch, which is nestled into the 4’ utility hallway of the 900 sqft guest cottage that we call home for the majority of the year. Since nearly all of our spaces multi-task, the hutch does the same. It corrals everything from linens, to office + school supplies, to sun hats, to winter scarves. As always, I aim to use items already sitting around our house as flexible, makeshift organizers in an effort to help the things we own pull double-duty, and to avoid buying anything new.
Note: This week, as another hurricane trundles towards us, as wars rage on, and as we navigate personal loss, I find myself short on words despite an overflow of emotions and opinions. As such, I’ll let these photos and their captions tell the story.
