Below is this week’s Staying Rightsized, a photo roundup featuring some of the many space-saving considerations around our cottage. I share this as a reminder that we usually don’t need a bigger space— we simply need less stuff, and more creativity. As minor as some of these moments seem, the little things really do add up, providing more space for navigating daily life within limited or awkward square footage.

Above: The inside of our custom-cut HVAC closet door put to use as a tool wall. We attached a broken, transparent food storage container to the wood, creating a functional (albeit untidy) vessel for gear and small tools. Rechargeable batteries, tape measures, a hammer and more also dangle from this surface. Their weight ensures that they don’t bounce every time we open and close the doors.
